Tool Tote - June 29th & 30th, 2026

The Tool Tote is a chic and practical bag for sewing tools, knitting, makeup, or whatever else needs to be contained in style! Pockets all the way around on the outside, pockets all the way around on the inside! Heavy duty formed metal stays that keep the bags mouth wide open, easy to get in and reach all your important tools.

Pre-Class Homework: Complete steps 1-3 of the pattern before class to ensure you're starting at the same point, and the construction of the bag can begin!

The fabric order is:

A – Fabric 1 This will be for the Top of the bag, including handles (purple labels).  If this fabric is directional, you will need about 2/3 yard more than the pattern calls for if you want to make the handles go the same direction.  It is up to you.

B – Fabric 2 This will be for the Bottom of bag (blue labels)

C – Fabric 3 This fabric is for the Trim and inside pockets (pink labels)

*Even though the pattern calls for ½ yard of the fusible fleece, you will need 3/4 yard.

*I use the lightweight fleece for the outer end pockets rather than the foam.  The foam is just a little too thick.  *We will put these pockets together in class.

*Use heat erasable pens to draw any lines for quilting.  The pattern calls for chalk, but it is really hard to erase it off the fabric.

*After you cut out fabrics, foam and fleece, clip the labels to them.  This is important to keep track of your pieces.

Do the first three steps from the pattern:

Step One -- Outer Bag    (Watch layout if you are using directional fabric)

Step Two –   Inner Bag     (Watch layout if you are using directional fabric)

Step Three --  Outer and Inner Bag Ends

After putting fabric and fleece and foam together as directed in Step 1, 2, and 3 for top, bottom and end panels, quilt each of these pieces.  You can quilt them any way you would like.  *I draw and sew 1-inch vertical lines to do my quilting because I find it easier when measuring later on.  I start in the center and measure out to each side by 1” increments.

We will put the Outer Bag End Pockets together and quilt those during the class.  They are a little tricky, not difficult, just tricky.
